HELP !!!! 2008
Annual Mail-out Fund Drive support is LOW....
We have asked for your support as we begin the new year with our annual mail-out fund
drive campaign. The support is LOW so far. Fire Protection cost money. Please
send your donation in. We're sure you just simply forgot about it. If you need
another copy - call us 895-5066 and we'll get one to you.
Your SBVFD firefighters are state
trained....
Chief Johnson wants you to know were
trained. The Salem Blackman VFD starts out a new recruit with an intensive
background check, then they go through a membership review committee where they
are asked a variety of questions and interviewed. If the prospective member
makes it through this process, they then are brought before the entire
membership to start a 365 day probation period. In the first twelve months the
new applicant has to complete a 30 hour vehicle rescue course, and 80 hour
emergency medical first responder course, 80 hours of basic firefighting at the
state fire academy, 4 hours of hazardous materials overview, complete 16 hours
of incident command to include the National Incident Management courses and
begin the process to become certified at level one of the Tennessee Commission
on Firefighting. During all this training, the member works under an FTO concept
where they respond to and learn from other trained firefighters. On the average
it takes nearly two years before a firefighter is allowed to drive and operate
responding equipment.
With an ISO protection class of "6" -
you see that we are trained properly to protect you, your property and the ones
you love.
Respectfully,
Your SBVFD firefighters

many people in our community. SBVFD’s dedication to the delivery of professional
emergency services is exemplified by our commitment to excellent customer

Please review our entire site to learn more about us and how you can become a
volunteer and how SBVFD can serve you
Our Mission
The Salem Blackman Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department (SBVFD)
proudly serves the citizens living and working in an area of 25 square miles of
Rutherford County. We protect a mix of residential, rural and commercial
facilities. We are a department whose members serve on a volunteer status.
Our members receive no pay.
Amongst providing Fire and Life Safety Services, the SBVFD is
the only volunteer agency in Rutherford County that provides EMS First Responder
services in a partnership with Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service
(RCEMS). The EMS First Responder Program allows us to reach you and render aid
when the Ambulance Service request us. This is a very intense program and we are
proud to be the first volunteer agency providing this service to our citizens.
Our department was the first department in the county to provide
a "full compliment" of extrication resources in time of need which supports our
working relationship with the Rutherford County Rescue Squad and RCEMS. We were
also the first department in the county to provide Hazardous Materials Response.

Fire Service Profile
In 1971 it was determined that Rutherford County needed fire protection for
the rural areas. First established by the Civil Defense organization and then
grew over the years to now eleven volunteer fire departments covering the county
with twenty fire stations strategically located throughout.
