Swine Flu Precautions.....

Swine Flu fears are sweeping the country and the world. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate its response to this emerging health threat. Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, has also declared a public health emergency in the United States.

In addition the World Health Organization has raised its phase of alert for a pandemic to a four, two levels below a worldwide pandemic of widespread human infection.

The CDC has determined this strain of swine flu is contagious and can be passed from human to human. Here are some prevention tips from the CDC.

What You Can Do
         1.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
         2.
Stay home when you are sick.
         3.
Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
         4.
Wash and scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap.
         5.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth

Symptoms
Unfortunately, symptoms of swine flu are similar to other less serious human flu's. They include sore throat, fever, body aches, chills, fatigue and cough. Fortunately there are vaccinations and medications available to treat swine flu. If you suspect you may be infected contact your health professional immediately.

For more information go to Centers for Disease Control http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/

 A message from Chief Johnson:

On behalf of the Officers and Board of Directors, I want to welcome you to our website.  I hope you find it both informative and useful.  SBVFD is a professional organization dedicated to the delivery of quality emergency services. Our Regular members provide services to many people in our community. SBVFD’s dedication to the delivery of professional emergency services is exemplified by our commitment to excellent customer service and efforts to strengthen the safety and well being of our community. Please review our entire site to learn more about us and how you can become a volunteer and how SBVFD can serve you.

Our Mission

The Salem Blackman Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department (SBVFD) proudly serves the citizens living and working in an area of 25 square miles of Rutherford County. We protect a mix of residential, rural and commercial facilities. We are a department whose members serve on a volunteer status.
Our members receive no pay.

Amongst providing Fire and Life Safety Services, the SBVFD is the only volunteer agency in Rutherford County that provides EMS First Responder services in a partnership with Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service (RCEMS). The EMS First Responder Program allows us to reach you and render aid when the Ambulance Service request us. This is a very intense program and we are proud to be the first volunteer agency providing this service to our citizens.

Our department was the first department in the county to provide a "full compliment" of extrication resources in time of need which supports our working relationship with the Rutherford County Rescue Squad and RCEMS. We were also the first department in the county to provide Hazardous Materials Response.
